"Mounds, Pile & Massings"
Opening September 12, 2019 at 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Hosted by Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University and curated by Greg Leshé, in collaboration with the village’s Pierro Gallery. The exhibition looks at the human impulse to stack, pile and amass groupings of objects as both creative action and critical inquiry. The participating artists investigate a variety of themes within the notion of accumulation including; consumer waste and climate change, Caribbean history and the colonial economy of salt tied to slave labor, the “mixed reality” world we inhabit between physical and virtual contexts, consumerism, capitalism and copyright. Participating artists include Cat Alden, Noa Charuvi, Kate Dodd, Deborah Jack, Vandana Jain, Daren Kendall, Robert Lach, Ann LePore, Greg Leshé, Darren Lee Miller, John Pfahl, Elizabeth Riley and Kathryn Vajda.

Kathryn Vajda: Snow Cities
Vandervort Gallery from November 4-March 31, 2018
Reception December 1, 2017 5-7pm
An exhibit of nine large format prints and a book from the winters of 2016 and 2017. The print Old Forge 2-17-17 was constructed at the View as part of a three-day Visiting Artist project.
Post-Production Print from Old Forge
After visiting The View I looked through all the photos taken on February 18, 2017. I selected a group of images photographed roughly over a 15 minute period starting around 8:10 am. Old Forge 2-17-17 was constructed from that group of photos.
Snow City at The View, Old Forge, NY, February 2017
I was invited to The View to build a Snow City over the span of three days. The construction took place from February 16 - February 18, 2017. The first day I arrived there was substantial snow snow on the ground and it was still falling. They brought out heavy equipment and cleared a space 20' x 20' in 30 minutes and I was able to get to work immediately. I used the first day for setup. I constructed the entire Snow City the second day which spanned into the night. The third day I was there by 6:00 am and started photographing around 8:00 am. The weather quickly warmed up and the city was melting significantly by midday.

The snow and ice construction of the Snow Cities happened over the time period from November 2014 till March 2015. It was during this time that the photography took place as well. Post production started almost immediately. The image construction and printing took over 12 months and is continuing.
